iOS Retina Updates Galore!

Good news for users who have purchased a new iPad: the latest update of the Schlock Mercenary app includes Retina display graphics for all the UI elements of the application. All the buttons, backgrounds and text of the UI are now incredibly sharp.

But wait, there's more...

The latest version of the app can also now download Retina display strips. These strips provide the best looking Schlock Mercenary you've ever seen. Currently, these strips are available for the most recent years, but Howard is working on exporting and uploading the entire archive at higher resolution.

More? Okay - Howard is exporting the recolored strips produced for the print versions of books 5, 6 and 7. These new colors, expertly rendered by Travis Walton, were previously only available in print. Now they're available electronically exclusively on Retina displays.

Saving the best for last, these retina strips are also available for users that have an iPhone 4/4S, or 4th or greater generation iPod touch.

What's the catch? You can only see the Retina quality strips if you have a paid subscription for the application. You can buy a subscription in the app via the Settings page. Purchasing a subscription also removes the ads from the application, and gives you access to strips three days ahead of the website.

In case you need some more temptation, here is a comparison of a panel from the August 2, 2005 strip in standard and Retina display resolutions.

Of course the images are displayed at the same size, but the amount of additional detail in the image is astounding.

So what are you waiting for? Make sure you've got the latest version of the application (2.8.0+), buy a subscription (only $1 per month, or $5 for six months), and go read Schlock Mercenary in greater detail than ever before!
